On March 20, 2014, in partnership with the Humane Society of Bay County, we rescued 12 male standard poodles from an hoarding / puppy mill situation.   We took in 3 more from the same situation a week later. The dogs ranged in age from 8 months to 3 years of age. They were all vetted and neutered. Because of the situation these dogs came from, they all needed special attention and care as well as work with socialization and leash training. They came a long way in the short time they were in our care. They liked people but were unsure and afraid of many things as several had not been outside their kennel environment.  They all needed time and patience.  All went on to furever homes where they receive unconditional love from their adopting families.

In the end, almost 150 dogs were rescued from the same owner.  That truly took a vilage and we will never forget how so many people came together to help these beautiful creatures.

Six of the dogs received into our care were accepted into the MiPAWS program at the Correctional Institute in Ionia.

You can read the progress reports we received on each of the dogs in the MiPAWS program by clicking on this link.

Thank you for your support!!!

Moe was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world.  He is almost 3 years old. Initially Moe was one of the most shut down but he is a totally new dog!!  You would never know he was the same dog that was rescued 8 weeks ago.  Moe loves people, loves playing with other dogs, loves to play "chase" with his foster sister Molly, and walks beautifully on a leash.  He is feeling so comfortable in his foster home that he is even getting a little sneaky.  He stole a piece of bread off the counter, and chewed up an adoption application that was on the table.  Poodles are so smart.  He is learning to get in and out of a car on his own....shouldn't take too much longer now that he realizes he gets to go to fun places.  He is still a bit unsure about little people (kids) and likes to bark at them.  Since he has never been around kids we think he is trying to figure out what they are :-)  Moe would do best in a home without little ones and he would love to have a playmate to play "chase" with.

Like most puppies, Oliver is very energetic.  He is not used to a leash yet and will require training. Not sure how he is with children yet. He needs to go to someone that is active and willing to work with him and has a lot of time to train him. Adopted!  Winston went to his forever home and we couldn't be happier for him!!!  Available soon-recovering from surgery. Winston was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world. He is 2 1/2 years old. Winston has a slight limp from an old untreated injury due to a torn leg muscle.

4/12/14 UPDATE:  Winston has gone into foster and is doing great.  He is learning a lot with his pack of 5 dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, and peacocks.  He is so sweet and will be a very well rounded boy when he is ready to leave his foster.  He is learning that a tv is not a scary thing :-)

5/5/13  After a few different opinions, it was determined that Winston requires surgery for his leg.  He has a Cruciate Tear, and needs an M.R.I.T. (Modified Retinacular Imbrication Technique OR Lateral Suture) on his right stifle/knee. He will require at least 6 weeks of rehab and water therapy. This injury is causing him a lot of pain and discomfort and we want him to feel better. We have set up an account with GOFUNDME to raise money for his surgery.  Please click on the link below to donate / help:  http://www.gofundme.com/8wszp0

ADOPTED June 13th - Graduated from MiPAWS. Larry was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world.  He has no training but he is a kissing bandit! He is a handsome fella and so eager to please and learn. He is calm and is the most confident out of the 3 siblings. (Curly and Moe are his brothers).  He is almost 3 years old and with a little weight on his bones he could top out at 70 + pounds. Larry is ready for a foster or permanent home with the right patient person / family. Everything will be new to him.  Sights and sounds both indoor and outdoor can be very scary for him. He has not had any accidents in his kennel since we have had him.  He is learning to walk on a leash. He is very curious but most things frighten him. He does not pull on his leash but would bolt if something spooked him. No children under 12 and a completely fenced yard is required.  4/9/14 UPDATE Larry went into the MiPaws Program at the Dept of Corrections in Ionia. He will be paroled in 8-10 weeks once he is socialized, trained, and learned some manners. He will then be ready for his furever home.

Luther was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world. Luther is about 15 months old. He needs special attention.  He likes men but it takes him along time to warm up to women. He has been being worked with by a woman that he has taken to a little. He does fetch and is starting to walk on a leash. He would not do well with children. He needs a special home. He is not interested in treats but loves a good rubbing and lots of loving. I cannot stress enough that he is very shy towards people except for our volunteer that is been working with him. He needs a special home. He is very sweet and calm.

4/9/14 UPDATE Luther went into the MiPaws Program at the Dept of Corrections in Ionia. He will be paroled in 8-10 weeks once he is socialized, trained, and learned some manners. He will then be ready for his furever home.

Adopted!  Mikey now has a poodle sibling to run and play with so he can burn off that puppy energy.  GO Mikey!! Graduating from MiPAWS! Mikey entered the first program very late and is staying for a second course of training.  Mikey was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world.  He is 10 months old and like most puppies, very energetic.  More details coming soon.

4/10/14 Mikey is being neutered today

4/12/14 Mikey is recovering and as playful as ever.  He has learned to love people - still a little submissive and shy at first but like the others has come such a long way.  He will need some obedience training but he is a smart cookie and eager to learn.  You just can't beat his SMILE :-)

4/14/14 Mikey went into foster today!

4/25/14 UPDATE They had room for one more so Mikey went into the MiPaws Program at the Dept of Corrections in Ionia. He will be paroled in 8-10 weeks once he is socialized, trained, and learned some manners. He will then be ready for his furever home.

Elwood was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world.  He is 1 year old Standard Poodle and Wheaton Terrier Mix, and like most puppies, very energetic.

Elwood loves to run! He also loves to play chase and have his belly rubbed. He likes his big crate. He would stay in it all day if you let him. Door open during day, still closed at night.

Elwood is still afraid of sudden moves,  loud noises, and going through doors.

He is in obedience school and is working on basic commands.

His favorite Treats/Rewards are kashi shredded wheat cereal, bananas and rice cakes and hot dogs I use for training at class.

he loves to be petted on his head and  ears and loves tummy rubs and body rub downs. He likes being rubbed with a towel when he comes in from outside if he is wet. He doesn't mind his feet being wiped.

Elwood is a pretty easy going dog. He doesn't jump on people or furniture. He is making better eye contact. He really likes me a lot. He tolerates my husband and I can't figure out why. He has never been mean to him, but I think some man was at sometime or he is protecting me. He eats well. He smiles a lot. He really is a sweetheart. He will let you pet him for hours. That is his favorite pass time.

10 Month old Charlie has been in a foster home since he was rescued.  His foster parents were hoping to adopt him but their elderly dog just insn't warming up to poor Charlie (through no fault of his own).  Like the others, Charlie has come a long way.  Charlie is a very sweet, gentle dog. He loves affection and nudges you when he wants you to pet him. He has been great with other dogs and kids so far. He loves toys that squeek and is learning how to fetch. He is being crate trained and has only had a few accidents in the house. He needs some help with leash training and just basic obedience commands.  He is smart and eager to learn.

Jake was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world.  He is 1 year old and like most puppies, very energetic.  More details coming soon.

4/10/14 Jake is being neutered today.

4/12/14 Jake is recovering from his neuter and is still as sweet as can be.  He is mixed with Wheaton terrior and has the softest coat.  He is shy but loves to be loved on.  He is ready to go to a patient home.  Like the rest of the crew, sight and sounds (tv, dishwasher, load noises) take a little bit to get used to.  He is learning to walk on a leash and eager to bond with his new peeps.

4/13/14 Little Jake went into foster today and he has 2 standard poodle sibs to hang with and he already likes the cat.  Happy day and happy tears

Eddie was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world. He is 2 1/2 yrs old.

4/13/14 Eddie has turned into the sweetest dog.  Very calm and mellow since he first arrived in our care.  He likes to run around the yard, but also likes people and is very curious about kids.  Gave one lucky little fellow lots of kisses today.  His brother Winston is in foster and is fine with all sorts of creatures, and we expect that Eddie will be the same, since they were 2 peas in a pod.

4/14/14 Eddie went into foster today!

4/29/14 Adopted by his foster mom and dad!!  We couldn't be happier for Eddie :-)

Curly was rescued from an unfortunate situation where he spent most of his life in a kennel with little contact with people or the outside world. He is almost 3 years old. Curly is a very Tall guy.  He is a bit more cautious than Larry but coming around. He will be neutered late this week and ready for Foster or a permanent home with the right family / person. Curly is anxious to bond with someone. Once you gain his trust he will the most loyal companion you could ever ask for. He has just started to wag his tail and is learning to play. His eyes say it all. I took him out on a leash last night for the first time, he was skeptical but came around. Curly has not had any accidents in his kennel since arriving, and should adapt to housebreaking. He too will need patience as everything is new to him.  4/10/14  ADOPTED!  Curly went to his forever home a few days ago and has a new name for his new life:  JACKSON.  He has 2 sisters, an 11 yr old mini poodle, and a 7 year old standard poodle along with his 2 legged mom / dad and 18 year old boy.  He has great big yard to romp around in after being confined to such a small space for years.  We couldn't be happier!  We'll post updates from his new family when we get a minute.

Clancey - now Odie was a lucky boy that went into a home soon after he was rescued.  He is in a family home and has a standard poodle sibling.  He is one smart boy and is learning lots and living / loving the good life!!
